In the beginning of 2005 I wanted a Sun
shaped piece of art for one of our gates. So we found a 30
inch round piece of aluminum plate that was about 1/16 of an inch
thick. I drew my version of the Sun on the aluminum. It
was then cut out by hand with a plasma cutter.
While
looking at the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) website one
day in June 2005, I noticed they were having an art contest.
It was called the SunWorks Art contest. I entered the aluminum
Sun and won 2nd
place for July 2005. In June 2006, SOHO chose this Sun as 1 of
25 pieces of Sun art to display in an exhibit. It will travel
around the world for a year and a half. I'm very honored they
chose my artwork. Below is a picture of the Sun art and links
to web sites that are involved in this project.
